Preferment Ready for 2015 Hong Kong Vase

December 7th, 2015

Trainer Chris Waller has been understandably thrilled with the results posted by Preferment over the last twelve months and is confident the entire is primed for a competitive performance in Saturday’s 2015 Hong Kong Vase (2400m) at Sha Tin Racecourse.

Preferment has been a strong and largely consistent performer for Waller since first appearing on course during the 2014 Spring Carnival; posting three wins and five minors through only sixteen competitive starts; highlighted by wins in each of the Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) in 2014 and Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) during the recent Spring Carnival.

While hampered for a run late and 20th in the Melbourne Cup (3200m) most recently on the first Tuesday of November, Waller told AAP the Zabeel entire has travelled well to Hong Kong and should relish a return to his pet distance of 2400m for the 2015 Hong Kong Vase.

“The reports are he has travelled over well,” he said.

“I will go there on Thursday and I’m looking forward to what he can do.

“He came out of the race (Melbourne Cup) well which is why we decided to give him a chance in Hong Kong.”

Debuting to racing for seventh in a Sandown minor over 900m in July 2014, Preferment experienced something of a meteoric rise to prominence over the following months; running in the minors in three minors in both Sydney and Melbourne before placing second in the Listed Geelong Classic (2200m) and breaking through for a maiden win in the Victoria Derby.

Unable to make much of a competitive impact upon resuming this year, Preferment ran eleventh in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) and sixth in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) before placing second in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) most notably on March 21st.

Clearly needing the run when resuming in spring for 12th in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m), the stallion out of Better Alternative posted consecutive victories in the Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m) and Turnbull Stakes before failing to figure in either of the Cox Plate (2040m) or Melbourne Cup. is currently offering the best 2015 Hong Kong Vase odds for which Preferment can be taken at a quote of $5 for success.
